Arm Chair is an essential tool to assist anyone who cannot walk properly , despite the age.
Years ago, Dad felt down onto the street in Yaumati. He wanted to avoid "knocking down" a 3-4 years old kid who was running into him. He broke his pelvis. After the operation of putting a screw to fix the bones in his Hip, Dad started to walk slowly and caustiously with a stick.
Dad refused to use arm chair so far he can walk with a stick. Nevertheless, as when approching 90 yrs old in 2005, he needs to do so. Around May 2005, Dad was "pushed" by the maid and had an arm chair round trip to and from Homantin, Mongkok and Yaumati. Woo.........thats why our maid told me that it was a good exercise to reduce weight.
Shortly afterwards, Dad told me that he want to buy an Electric Arm Chair for himself (as he shared with Mom the same chair). Eventually, Dah choose his favourite one amongst the 4 finalists. (the picture showed Dad was testing one of the finalists).
Dad made some alternations to the New Toy so as to fit him more. (it was his practise). But it was only a week later, Dad told me that he will not use the electric AC anymore as his response is too slow to cope with the fast an heavy traffic in the street. It was good as he can reconize his weakness.
Don't forget, Dad is a person who will never give up. He started to practice the "driving technique" along the corridor outside our falt in Oi Man Estates. One day, in summer 2005, the maid informed me that she accompanied Dad to and from Hunghom for shopping in his Electric Arm Chair. To us all, it was a shock ! But it was a fact too.
It was a pride to see his achievement, but Safety should go first.
A big cheer to you, my Dad !!!
Always Admire U, Duncan
